Book your visit ! One of our manades is located less than 3 km from the ramparts and can be reached on foot.

Less than 2 km from the ramparts, explore the Aigues-Mortes Saltworks. On foot or by bike, independently or with a guide depending on the season, discover part of this 8,600-hectare natural site with exceptional biodiversity.

Before you leave, don't miss the chance to taste the famous La Baleine fleur de sel.

After all that exploring, it's time for a well-earned break ! Stop by one of our bakeries and enjoy a slice of the famous Aigues-Mortes fougasse, a delicious sweet brioche flavoured with butter, sugar and orange blossom. Savour it on the lively Place Saint-Louis or in the peaceful surroundings of Place de la Viguerie.

Sunday morning : In the heart of nature

Every Wednesday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., stroll through the market in the heart of the new town, beneath the shade of century-old plane trees. Fill your basket with local specialities : sand-grown potatoes and carrots, produce from local farmers, Camargue bull meat, freshly landed fish from Le Grau-du-Roi, AOP Sable de Camargue wines, Camargue canelés and many other regional delicacies. Bakeries, butcher's shops, wine cellars, delicatessens, cafés and ice cream parlours complete the lively atmosphere.

  • Explore the Camargue on foot or by bike

Fancy a guided walk ? Follow a passionate naturalist guide along hidden paths and discover protected sites usually closed to the public.

Prefer to explore at your own pace ? Walk or cycle along the ViaRhôna, which follows the canal through the heart of the Camargue. No bike ? Rent a standard or electric bike, or join a guided e-bike nature tour for an even richer experience.

Sunday afternoon : Art and heritage

  • Discover art galleries and local artisans

Aigues-Mortes is home to a wealth of artistic treasures. Paintings, sculptures, original creations, leather goods, jewellery… Wander through the streets of the medieval town and discover the talent of local artists. You may even find the unique creation you've been dreaming of !

  • Hunt for the Cryptors (in French only)

Set off in search of the Cryptors, historical figures, iconic animals and local symbols represented by artistic ceramic plaques hidden throughout the town. Download the free app to collect them and discover Aigues-Mortes from a new perspective. This fun cultural treasure hunt can be enjoyed alone, as a couple or with the whole family.

Before you leave, browse the town's charming shops for a special keepsake. Ceramics, hats, Sable de Camargue wines or the famous fougasse… you'll be spoilt for choice !

Just a short walk from the lively Place Saint-Louis, on the town's main street, stands the Church of Notre-Dame-des-Sablons.

This remarkable setting is home to outstanding contemporary artworks by renowned artists, including the wooden bust of Saint Louis by Josep-Maria Subirachs, the tabernacle by Jean-Pierre Formica, the unfinished Stations of the Cross by Jacques Poli and the magnificent stained-glass windows by Claude Viallat, whom we had the pleasure of interviewing.
