Built between the 13th and 14th centuries in the heart of Aigues-Mortes during the city’s growth under Saint Louis, Notre-Dame des Sablons Church harmoniously combines Gothic and Romanesque styles, with flying buttresses and a large rose window. Its simple yet majestic stone architecture has endured through the centuries, offering a fascinating glimpse into the Middle Ages.
Inside, the large nave and side chapels create a contemplative atmosphere. Light streaming through Claude Viallat’s contemporary stained glass fills the space with vibrant colors, while installations and sculptures by Bernard D’Honneur add a modern dimension, in dialogue with the site’s historical heritage.
The church is thus a unique space where medieval architecture and contemporary art meet, offering visitors a full cultural and spiritual experience.
