When I arrived at the entrance to the Salt Works, away from the tourist crowds, I was welcomed by Luc Vernhes, a former salt worker, just a few minutes before our tour began.

This intimate and exclusive experience allows us to discover the secrets of the Fleur de Sel harvest in a small group, ensuring rich and personalised exchanges with our guide.

It is important to wear suitable shoes and bring sunscreen and a hat, as we are exposed to the sun throughout the visit. In addition, for the magic of the crystallisation process to take place, there must be very little wind.

This tour is available during July and August, the Fleur de Sel harvesting season. Booking is required, and you will need your own vehicle to reach the harvesting site.

An ancestral craft and a unique connection with nature

The fleur de sel harvest is an ancestral craft, passed down from generation to generation. Passionate about his work, Luc shared with us his love for this unique tradition.

He explained how, through the combined action of the sun and the wind, a thin layer of salt forms on the surface of the salt pans.

This delicate layer is then carefully harvested by hand, a precise gesture that requires great skill and attention. As we explored the site, I was amazed by the beauty of the landscape : the pink salt marshes stretched as far as the eye could see, offering a truly breathtaking natural spectacle. The contrast between the brilliant white Fleur de Sel and the blue sky was simply stunning.

This visit helped me better understand the close relationship between people and nature in this unique environment, where protecting the ecosystem is essential to preserving the quality of the harvest. Beyond discovering the work of the salt workers, it was a genuine journey through history and an exceptional natural setting.
