Do you dream of traveling back in time ? Aigues-Mortes, a fortified town rich in history, opens the gates to the 13th century. Every year, at the end of August, the medieval city transforms into a true open-air stage to celebrate its founder, King Louis IX.
A unique atmosphere, recognized nationwide : in 2025, Aigues-Mortes and its medieval Saint-Louis festival received the label "Most Beautiful Festivals of France".
On 25 August 1248, Louis IX — the future Saint Louis — embarked on the 7th Crusade from the port he had just founded : Aigues-Mortes. More than 700 ships, loaded with supplies, horses and men-at-arms, set sail for the Holy Land.
Each year, the medieval city celebrates this historic epic during a grand weekend, when the streets resonate with the spirit of the Middle Ages.
