The White Penitents Chapel

Founded in 1625, the Confrérie des Pénitents Blancs has played a major role in spirituality and art in Aigues-Mortes. Their chapel, built in 1668, is a masterpiece of sacred art, decorated with monumental frescoes, including Xavier Sigalon's famous "Descente du Saint-Esprit" (1817).

The brotherhood has always been dedicated to helping the sick and poor, while preserving liturgical traditions. It also preserves a series of paintings by Auguste Glaize, donated by Brother David Castor Gout, which testify to its commitment to sacred art and Christian devotion.
