Saint Louis Festival

Each year, the town of Aigues-Mortes celebrates its founder, King Louis IX, with a major immersive medieval festival.

> Friday 21 August

12 pm – 10 pm Medieval market – Within the ramparts
12 pm – 10 pm Children’s area – Place de la Viguerie
12 pm – 1 am Tavern – Tour des Bourguignons
5 pm – 6:30 pm Cinema – Saint Louis le Roi dispersé, with the director, Dominique ADT, in attendance – Cinémas Municipal Marcel Pagnol, Rue Victor Hugo
8 pm Reconstruction of a medieval banquet – Tour des Bourguignons
9:30 pm Medieval pyrotechnic show – La légende des Remparts, Compagnie NADAL – South Rampart (€18 / €12 for children up to 10 years old)

10:30 am Historical parade – With the King and his Court, knights, musicians, soldiers, as well as townspeople, peasants… Departure from Salle Camargue, Boulevard Diderot
11 am Presentation of the city keys to King Louis IX – Opening of the city gates, Porte de la Gardette
5:30 pm Knights’ tournament – The King’s Grand Tournament, Compagnie NADAL – South Rampart (€18 / €12 for children up to 10 years old)
9 pm Historical parade – Departure from Porte de la Marine
10:15 pm Medieval ball – Place Saint-Louis

10:30 am Presentation of the city keys to King Louis IX – Opening of the city gates, Porte de la Gardette
11 am Eucharistic celebration – Presided over by Monsignor Norbert Turini, Archbishop of Montpellier – Notre-Dame-des-Sablons Church. Procession from 10:15 am, departing from the presbytery, 4 Rue Theaulon.
5:30 pm Knights’ tournament – The King’s Grand Tournament, Compagnie NADAL – South Rampart (€18 / €12 for children up to 10 years old)
9 pm Historical parade – Departure from Porte de la Marine
10:30 pm Pyrotechnic show – Re-enactment of Louis IX’s embarkation & fireworks – South Rampart

> Every day – Activities in the medieval camps, medieval theatre, illumination workshop, demonstrations of war machines (catapult, ballista, etc.), stone carving, glassblowing, children’s area (wooden games, treadwheel crane, crêperie, etc.), musical performances, concerts, children’s melee, candy catapult & medieval farm.
