Do you dream of traveling through time ? Aigues-Mortes, a fortified city rich in history, opens the doors to the 13th century. Every year, at the end of August, the medieval town transforms into a true open-air theater to celebrate its founder, King Louis IX.
On August 25th, 1248, Louis IX embarked on the 7th Crusade from the strategic port he had just created : Aigues-Mortes. Over seven hundred ships, loaded with provisions, horses, and knights, were preparing, sheltered from the turbulent waters, to conquer the Holy Land.
For one weekend, the town immerses itself in its past. During this time, the streets come alive with numerous scenes and activities : historical parades, knights' camps, fire shows, medieval markets and balls, taverns, musicians, street performers, and jousting tournaments. A fireworks display, with a re-enactment of the king's embarkation for the crusade, beautifully concludes the Saint Louis celebrations.
The next Saint Louis festival will take place in August 2025.
You can view and download the event's program here.
During the Saint Louis festival, all parking lots are open, except for Parking P4, which is reserved for motorhomes and exhibitors.
The town is accessible to people with reduced mobility, though many streets are cobblestoned. For the jousting tournament, we recommend arriving early at the tournament entrance after purchasing your tickets. A security officer will grant you priority access.
Pets are allowed during the Saint Louis festival. However, the town hosts many visitors during the event, which can be overwhelming for pets and may make them harder to spot for other visitors.
