Saint Louis festival
Dreaming of a journey through time ? Aigues-Mortes, a walled town steeped in history, invites you to step into the 13th century. Every year at the end of August, the medieval city transforms into an open-air stage to honor its founder, King Louis IX.
A truly unique atmosphere, recognized on a national level : in 2025, Aigues-Mortes and its Saint-Louis medieval festival were awarded the "Most Beautiful Festivals of France" label.
THE PROGRAM OF THE SAINT-LOUIS FESTIVAL
On August 25, 1248, Louis IX — the future Saint Louis — set sail on the 7th Crusade from the port he had just founded : Aigues-Mortes. Over 700 ships, loaded with supplies, horses, and men-at-arms, departed for the Holy Land.
Each year, the medieval town commemorates this historic epic with a spectacular weekend, during which the streets come alive with the spirit of the Middle Ages.
► All Day Long :
- Lively medieval camps with knights, craftsmen, and reenactments of daily life
- Street theatre, storytelling, and medieval skits
- Hands-on workshops : illumination, stone carving, blacksmithing, and glassblowing
- War machines : catapults, ballistas, and spectacular live demonstrations
- Medieval farm
- Children’s area : wooden games, face painting, candy catapult, crêpe stand, and mock battles for young knights
- Wandering musicians and open-air concerts
► Highlights :
- Ceremonial handing over of the city’s keys to King Louis IX
- Costumed parades and grand historical reenactments
- Knightly tournaments and combat demonstrations
- Fire shows and evening entertainment
- Medieval market with artisans, taverns, and authentic stalls
- Medieval dances, traditional music, jesters, jugglers, and troubadours
► A Magical Finale :
A spectacular reenactment of Saint Louis’s departure, followed by a magnificent fireworks display that lights up the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes in a dazzling conclusion.
THE DATES OF THE SAINT-LOUIS FESTIVAL
The next Saint Louis Festival will take place in August 2026.

All parking areas in Aigues-Mortes remain accessible during the festival, except for parking lot P4, which is reserved for camper vans and exhibitors.

As in previous years, costumes will be available for rent. Pickup dates will be announced shortly.

Adult : €30 (deposit €100)
Child ≤ 6 years : €15 (deposit €40)
Child ≤ 12 years : €20 (deposit €60)
